Triathlon, and to a lesser extent, handball and wrestling, are the protagonists of the 2019 municipal calendar, which, following tradition, is distributed around the holy festival of the Three Kings in the municipality and will be available from Monday. It can also be downloaded from the webpage.
The Multisport World Championships, which will take place during the last days of April and the first days of May in the city, will be the major event of the year and will be the main focus of many people’s attention, so the annual publication has been dedicated to these sports activities, having been dedicated to virtual reality photography in 2018.
In expressive multicolour, a special version of the Ravachol parrot – the mascot of the event – is celebrating the new year on the front page of the publication which, like every year, offers 25 photographs of diverse aspects of the capital.
In addition to the Multisport Championships 2019, other international championships will take place this year, such as the Junior Handball World Championship (from the 3rd to the 9th of June) and the Olympic Wrestling European Championship (from the 15th to the 28th July). These two championships, which will be held indoors, just appear in four photographs on their respective months’ pages.
Javier Gómez Noya and Pablo Dapena appear in some of the photographs in the calendar, which is used to show the various areas of the city and the municipality where the different races will take place. For logistic reasons there is special focus on central spaces: the bridge called ‘Puente de los Tirantes’, the sports centre known as CGTD, and the historic town centre. The reservoir, Pontillón do Castro, the forest trails of the Cross Triathlon and the social events are also very important features in the publication, which in addition to the Galician language, also uses Portuguese, Spanish, English and French to name the months. As always, it includes information about the moon, eclipses and tides, as well as all the public holidays in Pontevedra.
Out of the 20,000 copies that will be circulated, around 4,500 will be reserved for each of the athletes that will be in Pontevedra over the days of the various World Championships.
