Shows and other entertainment activities are scheduled for residents, visitors and athletes attending the ITU Multisport Worlds. The programme was presented this morning by the Councillor of Sports, Anxos Riveiro, who said that it will contribute to making the world championships even more attractive and offer a wide variety of music that combines avant-garde, folklore and local artists with international touches.
The musical performances start at the inauguration, in which the gaitas (Galician traditional instruments similar to bagpipes) of ´Os de Algures´ will play with the group ´Danza das Rías Baixas´, offering a traditional touch around some squares in the Historical Center and on the main stage itself, where after the speeches and protocols the actors of Pablo Méndez Performance will perform an air dance show choreographed especially for this opening event.
On Saturday 27th of April, local heavy rock band ´Malkeda´ will ´play on the main stage which will be located close to the Monument which remembers the Heroes of Ponte Sampaio, in Plaza de España.
On Sunday the show moves to the esplanade of ´Recinto Ferial´, where the huge stage full of lights and big screens of ´Panorama Orchestra´ will be located, a place that will also be used for the Duathlon World Champs Age Group and Paratriathlon award ceremonies and that will undoubtedly be one of the biggest moments of the whole event, as many participants will remember from the last Pontevedra Worlds celebrated a few years ago.
On Tuesday 30th of April, the day before the public holiday and the day of the Cross Triathlon World Championship, it will be Mercedes Peón who will fuel the party atmosphere with his energetic, electronic folk, a very urban and progressive group that will undoubtedly amaze the international audience.
On the first of May, a pubic holiday, ´Claxxon´ will perform at the ´Plaza de España´. Claxxon is a group that pays tribute to Spanish and international pop and rock music ´from the 80s and 90s, their repertoire is full of hits for all tastes, from Mecano to Bonnie Tyler, Sabina, Bruce Springsteen, Europe, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Cranberries and Monica Naranjo.
The breakthrough Baiuca will play the night of Thursday 2nd of May, with his repertoire which fuses contemporary techno sounds with popular old and new Galician songs and live choruses based on the most contemporary musical aesthetic.
And finally, the closing party: on Saturday, 4th of May, the best Queen tribute group which performs all over the globe, Dr. Queen, will be headlining the closing concert of what will be a week full of excitement for residents and visitors alike.
What is intended with this programme, as Riveiro stressed, “is to promote our country with spectacles that will amaze the international audience who are coming, and offer athletes an exciting party atmosphere, one of the aspects that is most valued in our culture”. Our way of life, in which the streets are a common setting for all sorts of social events, is exposed to our guests with this agenda. In addition to the aforementioned musical stars, we have other artists such as DJ de la Duendeneta in charge of the Pasta Party and activities such as two Zumba groups organised by ´Be One´ in Plaza de España.
