The coordination of the three main operational areas of Multisport 2019 is under way

Three different areas of the town will focus on different aspects of the event’s organisation

The preparations and advancements of the Multisport Championships 2019 organisation headquarters will be visible from three main event centres: el Pazo da Cultura (the cultural centre), el Centro Galego de Tecnificación Deportiva (or CGTD for short, which is the Galician sports development and performance college, where Javier Gomez Noya studied), and la Alameda (a Boulevard in the old town near the town hall) will host different sections of the race organisation, services and athlete zone, establishing a base point for each operational function to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of the competitions.

The Pazo da Cultura will become the headquarters of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) during the ITU World Championships, all ITU operations and services will be based there.  The regional government, the Xunta de Galicia, who form the local organisation committee (LOC) will run their operations and services from the CGTD, (the race officials and organisation team, logistics and media/communication etc will be based there).  The CGTD is right by the bridge called Puente Os Tirantes, the location of the swim start for all races that include water.

The social aspects of the event will take place in the heart of the town (Plaza de España, Montero Ríos, la Alameda), as well as some other athlete services.  A large marquee will house the athlete village and expo, where athletes will find registration and other athlete services.  This will also be where the extra leisure time programmes will run from, as well as most of the shows and the opening and closing ceremonies.

The ITU Multisport World Championships will take place from the 27th April to the 5th May 2019.  Races will commence with the duathlon sprint race on the morning of Saturday 27th April.  On Sunday 28th April, one of the main events, the duathlon standard distance, will take place in the afternoon. On Tuesday, 30th April, the night before the bank holiday, the cross triathlon will take place which will be a beautiful race around the outskirts of the town.  The aquathlon will be on the 2nd May, and on Saturday 4th May there will be two competitions, the aquabike and what many consider to be the highlight of the championships, the ITU long distance triathlon.
