The river Lerez and its surroundings; protagonists in the Aquathlon World Championship, Pontevedra 2019

The Lerez river and its spectacular natural environment will be the setting for the Aquathlon World Championship which will be held on Thursday, 2nd May as part of the Multisport World Championships in Pontevedra, 2019.  The transition area and finish line will be located on La Avenida De Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires Avenue), very close to the urban centre and the gateway to the area of nature closest to the Galician town.  The Lerez river park, a common place to stroll around for Pontevedra’s citizens, is one of the symbols of the recuperation of nature in the river’s surroundings -with the ‘Xunqueira de Alba’ and ‘Dos Gafos River’-, and will also be the protagonist of the Cross Triathlon World Championship 2019.

The swim segment of the course will consist of a single lap of 1 kilometre for all categories, with athletes entering the water from a jetty next to the bridge called ‘Puente de los Tirantes’.  The Elite, Junior and U23 competitions will start at 3.00pm, with the Para-Aquathlon World Championship starting at 3.30pm and age groupers will be racing from 4.00pm onwards.  The run segment, with 2 laps which total 5 kilometres, will be entirely along and around the river, an environment with many trees and shady areas for athletes and the public.

Registration is now open through each National Federation. The closing date for registration is 27th March 2019.

Spanish athletes with a FETRI license will benefit from a 40 percent discount on the official registration price of the event until 31st January 2019.  Registration for athletes with a FETRI license can be processed here :
